Hola! How was the weekend? Our’s was wonderful. Lets dive right in, shall we?
Since The Lawyer was in Vegas until Thursday night last week, he took Friday easy. Mind you, he still did a bit of work, but at any rate, I’m counting Friday as part of the weekend recap even though it’s technically a weekday. It’s my blog, so I do what I want. 😉
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already been bombarded with a ton of ocean pictures! #sorrynotsorry
Friday morning I met my girlfriend, Meredith, at The Nature Interpretive Center in Dana Point. I’d never been, so I had no expectations and was just rollin’ with it, trusting that Mer would suggest something amazeballs.
Right now I’m shaking my head in disbelief that it’s taken me 55 weeks to visit such gorgeous scenery while walking a trail which is only 4 miles from my house! What have I been dooooooing?!
I’ll leave you with just one picture, but plz head straight over to Instagram so you can check out the rest of them. It was incredible! Anyway, after we hiked a short trail together and went on our separate ways, I ended up stopping at two additional trails, which were walking distance from the first. The views were out of this world, and solidified the fact that I am supposed to see the ocean every day of my life. I don’t know why I sometimes make excuses not to get to the ocean.I had a mid-afternoon appointment, so after hiking I came home and made some lunch for The Surfer and I before showering and heading out. Afterward, I swung by the house to pick up my main man and then we headed to a 4:30 appointment to pick out paint + carpet for my FILs condo. It’s in the middle of being renovated, so we were able to choose colors which is fabulous.
After that, we ventured to the mall to grab a few things including a new wallet and belt for A. Shopping for men’s wallets and belts isn’t really my thing, so I was text my mom pictures while he shopped:
By the time we left the mall we were starving, so I called a couple places to see if we could get in, and Cannon’s offered the soonest reservation of 7:30. We drove back to Dana Point and went downstairs to their lounge area and ordered a bottle of wine, planning to just have a glass before heading upstairs to their more formal dining area for dinner. We had such an amazing view and the sweetest waiter though, we decided to stay downstairs for dinner, too. Also, right our first glass of wine was poured the couple at the table you can see in the picture left, so we snagged their seats for an even better view.
Naturally, we ordered a dessert with two forks. It was fantastic!Since we were right by Hilltop Trail, which I had hiked earlier in the morning, I suggested we hike up after dinner to see the moon, which was still appearing full. I’m so glad we did! It was a treat to see the harbor with all the lights from the boats along with the coastline and the moon. We tried several times to take a selfie, but each time the flash was too much.
We agreed that the hike + short walk after dinner was quite enjoyable, although a bit chilly! I wished I would have brought a sweater! While the days are still beautifully warm, the evenings are certainly cooling down (for now).
We’re such party animals we were in bed before 10:00 p.m. Friday night.
I must have been tired because I slept through my alarm Saturday morning and didn’t wake up until 8:15! I was meeting a group of ladies at a local park for a self defense class Meredith organized at 9, so I had a quick cup of coffee before getting dressed and heading out. Also notable: this park I went to, Lantern Bay, is even closer than the trails I hiked on Friday and has a similar spectacular view of the harbor and ocean. It was my first time there as well! I’m thrilled to be discovering new places where I can take in all the beauty of the ocean but don’t necessarily have to be on the beach.
After class I came home and ran through the shower (to shave my legs … does anybody else do that?) before heading to the beach in San Clemente. We spent a couple hours sunning and then drove back home. We had back-to-back massage appointments, and mine was first, so I took a proper shower and headed out.
I don’t say this lightly: I had one of the best massages of my life! I was skeptical—as A has told me before about an “amazing” therapist whom I wasn’t impressed with in the slightest—but went in with an open mind. You guys! There’s only one therapist I’ve ever had that rivals this lady! She asked what I needed and since my entire body is a hot mess, I told her to “feel what needs to be done and do it. You’re the expert. I’ll enjoy whatev!” She was able to squeeze a whole body massage into our 90 minute session without me feeling like she skipped any part. She was so.so.so.so. good! She intuitively knew where my more tender spots were and adjusted her pressure accordingly. I can’t wait to see her again! I’ve been having different therapists each month over the last year trying to find somebody I mesh with, and I’m so glad I finally have. I’m surprised to find a lady I like, as I generally prefer the firmer pressure of male hands, but her 20+ years of experience are perfect.
Since The Surfer didn’t get home from his massage until after 7:00, we hadn’t made any dinner plans, and I hadn’t done any dinner prep. We settled for some smoked salmon, cheese and toast. <— We usually always have some type of cracker, but our recent influx of entertaining guests has us wiped clean out. The Surfer suggested the toast idea and it worked like a charm. We enjoyed a bottle of wine from the wine club in town we’re members of, and then I headed off to bed.
I made it to Shockwave again Sunday morning and it kicked my ass! I think the combination of the previous night’s lack of real dinner + no breakfast contributed to my lightheadedness and overall less-than-stellar performance. I did the best I could, and for the first time in my life felt like I was going to throw up during/after a workout!
There was a lady in class who went on the rower right before I did, and she continually got the best time for the women. I did all I could to try to beat her time, but ended up matching her time every single time! (The fury!) She was so nice, and we encouraged one another. The rowing machine is no joke, especially when the whole class is depending on you to complete your goal before they can move on. I was feeling extremely weak and nauseous after class that I stopped by the gas station for a Clif Bar. I didn’t even think I could make it the 2 mile drive home without seeing the several bottles of water I chugged during class come back up. It turned out to be a smart decision. Once I got home, I had some yogurt and laid down for a bit to gain my composure.
Since The Surfer was at Trestles still, I took advantage of the solo time to meal plan, shower and run to the grocery store. I feel like I meal prepped like a champ this week! I made another kitchen sink frittata (this time with kale, spinach, mushrooms, onion, green bell pepper, 2 zucchini, broccoli, bacon and cheddar cheese), some pb + oat energy balls, an entire pan of enchiladas using this homemade sauce, some quinoa + brown rice, sautéed some veggies and have a couple chicken breasts marinating for an easy grill sesh. In addition, we’re expecting our first Sun Basket this week, which will take care of at least 3 meals each, if not more. I’m one of those people who has no limits on breakfast or dinner foods. I’m confident The Surfer and I are set on healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners for the week! Hopefully he will take advantage and avoid Pedro’s. 😉
Enchiladas had onion, mushrooms, zucchini, green bell pepper and ground bison on the inside. Outside had a sprinkle of cheddar cheese, cilantro, avocado and the best homemade sauce I’ve ever made. To A’s disgust, I literally licked my plate. 😉
After dinner, we loaded the girls in the truck and drove to Lantern Bay Park for and evening stroll. It was perfect and they were so excited to be out of the house! As usual, Lucy was super active and Zoe was content just walking by my side. I put a lot of vids and pics on my IG story. They should still be there!
We came home from our evening walk and I worked on this post while enjoying a glass of wine and A’s company.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
Tell me the best thing about your weekend, friends!
