- Please know that I am not a certified aromatherapist, and I do not have any formal aromatherapy training. I do not claim that oils can absolutely heal or treat any medical condition you may be experiencing. That would be out of my league, and quite honestly, out of anybody’s league unless they are a medical doctor who is also a certified aromatherapist. You will come across people who sell oils for particular companies and they may try to tell you otherwise. Check their credentials, do your own research, and please consult a certified aromatherapist.
- I have a huge interest in essential oils and their potential benefits and side effects and enjoy researching the topic. I will post entries here on the blog which discuss essential oils, but none of my statements have been evaluated by any formal organization. Make the DIY recipes/crafts/etc at your own risk. I assume no liability.
- It is imperative to always use a carrier oil if you decide to use essential oils topically. Again, you may hear from large essential oil companies that this is not necessary, but I strongly disagree and urge you to again, do your research. It is generally recognized as dangerous to consume essential oils unless under the care of a certified aromatherapist.
A post I published on my personal Facebook page in December 2015 reads,
Popular MLM companies make claims that ingesting essential oils, and using them UNDILUTED on the skin, is safe.
I used to think this was all okay, too, as I was previously “Wellness Advocate” for one of the companies.
I started doing massive research on essential oils and realized how dangerous the above mentioned practices are.
If you or somebody you know is being misguided and mislead by a sales rep who is making money on the oils you buy from them, please please please start to do some research on your own, or find an aromatherapist in your area.
Some oils are not even safe even to be DIFFUSED around people who have certain medical conditions or take particular medications. Some essential oils are not safe to be diffused around children. Some aren’t safe for pregnant or nursing moms to inhale. Some aren’t safe for those with high blood pressure, on and on and on. For your health, and the health of those around you, do your part and research before you walk around making undereducated claims. I wish I would have done that several years ago when I first started dabbling with oils.
If you’d like to start educating yourself, there are many Facebook groups you can join to learn how to use essential oils safely. On many of these groups, you can interact DIRECTLY with aromatherapists and/or company owner’s who have your health in mind.
Essential Learning, Safe Essential Oil Recipes, Real Essential Oil Education Group, Real Aromatherapy Reviews & More, EssentialInfo – EO Consumer Advocacy and I’m sure there are many more I haven’t mentioned.
